FEBA India – WEEKLY SUMMARY: Violence aimed at religious minority groups in India has sharply increased since 2016. Only 2% of the population are Christian – which is still about 25 million people. This violence against Christians is mostly carried out by Hindu extremists focused on eradicating Christianity, despite a clause in the country’s constitution that guarantees the freedom of religion. Religious intolerance includes: sabotage of homes, churches and villages, forced reconversion, vandalism and mob violence.
