Listener Responses from India
With over 1.2 billion people, India is home to the largest number of unreached people in the world (2201 unreached people groups). India is 80% Hindu, but still has the world’s third largest Muslim population after Indonesia and Pakistan.
The radio ministry in India originated in the 1950’s. FEBA India can be heard on 5 AM stations and 1 shortwave station in India and 1 shortwave station in Sri Lanka. Program presenters follow up with listeners and those seeking to know more about Christ. They correspond by phone, SMS or letters. FEBA India receives about 1 500 listener responses monthly!
We’re so encouraged by the listener responses we receive every day at FEBC/FEBA, and we want you to be encouraged too. Here are two men from India who shared their stories of how FEBA’s broadcasts changed their lives:
“I come from a very poor family. As my parents could not finance my education, I was forced to seek employment at an early age and ended up as a painter. At nineteen years of age, while painting a building, my foot slipped and I fell. It was so serious, it left me with a fractured hip. So for the past twenty years now, I have been totally paralysed from the hip down.
Radio has always been my intimate friend. I always keep a radio by my side. I started listening to FEBA and their programs and understand that Jesus is the true God. It has been six years now since I received Jesus as my personal Saviour. Having no regular income and being unable to move, it is difficult for me to earn a living. I needed a wheelchair. This has helped me find work. I paint, write signboards and make banners. I’m very thankful for your broadcast for giving me the opportunity to know and invite Jesus into my heart.”
Another listener writes: “I’m a carpenter and I run a small furniture shop. My brother is a goldsmith and he works from home. We enjoy listening to the radio while we work. Your program has attracted our attention a lot, as they are different from others on the radio. We have applied many of the valuable lessons you have taught on inner healing, anger management and forgiveness. Your correspondence team has kept in touch with us and invited us to a listeners meeting, which we were glad to attend even though we had to take a day off from our work.”
Ek was ernstig beseer, ek het my heup gebreek. So vir die afgelope twintig jaar al, is ek heeltemal van my heup af ondertoe verlam.
Radio was nog altyd my beste vriend. Ek hou altyd ʼn radio naby my.
