New station in Chiconono (Radio Chiuanjota) – WEEKLY SUMMARY: Chiconono, a small village located in the North-Western Mozambican province of Niassa, is the ethno geographic centre of the Yao people. 95% of the Yao community practice Islam and only 1% are Christians. The Islam that the Yao people practice is completely intermingled with their own animistic beliefs. Recently the local council in Chiconono decided to hand over Radio Chiuanjota to FEBA South Africa. Council meetings were held to plan the official hand-over of the station. Training of local broadcasters and producers to run this station and a follow-up team who can connect with the people will also start soon.
